| Endangered giant pandas
from China, the world's largest koala colony outside of Australia, unique
tree kangaroos from New Guinea, and pygmy chimpanzees from central Africa
are just some of the animals seldom seen in zoos which make their homes
at the San Diego Zoo. Of course, the old favorites are here as well -- lions,
tigers, bears, elephants, giraffes, orangutans, zebras and gorillas - making
the San Diego Zoo a prime destination for more than three million visitors
each year. New at the Zoo is Ituri Forest, a mysterious central African jungle, where guests encounter okapis, hippos, forest buffalo, spotted-necked otters and a variety of colorful birds and acrobatic monkeys. This two-acre tropical rain forest is the most complex multi-species habitat ever developed at the Zoo. It also features an interpretive area that highlights the culture of the Mbuti, indigenous people to central Africa's Ituri Forest. The world-famous San Diego Zoo is an international animal experience that enables its visitors to see some of the earth's most exotic and endangered wildlife. The 100-acre zoo, one of the areas most popular attractions, is also a lush botanical garden. San Diego Zoo 2920 Zoo Drive San Diego CA 92103. (619) 234-3153.
