Amidst new and innovative concoctions that she hoped would make her lifestyle drastically more comfortable, Kristen uncovered the benefits that aromatherapy had on dogs. Her golden retriever at the time was recovering from minor surgery that left him with an aggravated incision. Creative chef that she was, Kristen brewed up a salve which restored Dublin to health. Thus marked the ground breaking of her business in canine aromatherapy. Kristen's endeavor began as a small company in 1997, the "Divine Dog Co." With business booming by the end of 1998, this web-based company drew such popularity that Aromaleigh, Inc. was created and the 100% natural product line was extended to include cats and humans as well. Founder, president, and resident aromatherapist, Kristen Leigh Bell received her international certification in aromatherapy from the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy in San Rafael, California. She is currently in pursuit of a master's certification and at present, is working on a book about the benefits of aromatherapy with pets. Aromatherapy is said to elicit a positive response in the body to pleasing scents and lotions. Many advocates contend that upon repeated use, there is a conclusive effect on one's overall well being through the use of candles, pomades, oils, etc., all of which are infused with essential oils from various herbs and other aromatic plants. A dog-lover, who dreams to one day own a Newfoundland, Kristen currently has two canine companions. Dublin, a 14 year-old Golden Retriever, and Nigel, a one year-old Standard Poodle mix are never far from her side. The two make the daily commute to work with Kristen, although the trip only entails walking up a flight of stairs (Kristen lives below her office).
